Our latest collaboration with Zizipho Poswa is called the Stellar.
The Stellar feels like a return to our roots. One of the features that drew us to this design was that the shape of the Stellar feels universal, appearing in cultural histories around the world, from Africa, Europe, the Americas, and beyond.
We believe that Africa offers so much in terms of vessels that we wanted to return to producing something that is both truly African whilst resonating with our primarily Western markets. We also believe that texture and evidence of handwork is becoming more important and design so this offered us the opportunity to combine these elements and simultaneously stretch ourselves to technically create a handmade textural planter that was repeatable in production.
We wanted a planter design with an anchoring soulfulness that Africa brings and Zizi was the obvious choice for us especially given the beautiful large scale pieces she has been doing more recently. Also the shape that we were interested in was very present in her work so it seemed like a natural fit.
